I have good news and bad news, movie fans. The good news is we’re almost to March, which means good movies are on the horizon! I can see them approaching. The bad news is this weekend doesn’t offer a ton of great new options to choose from at the theater. You can pick from a CGI dog or a haunted doll.
The Call of the Wild
Starring: Harrison Ford, Karen Gillan, Dan Stevens
After A Dog’s Journey, A Dog’s Purpose, A Dog’s Way Home, and The Art of Racing in the Rain were you hoping to yourself “Wow, I hope Hollywood makes another movie about a dog’s bond with their human owner, but this time, I want the story to take place in the 1800s. The dog needs to be computer-generated, and Harrison Ford HAS to be the star.” Well, do I have some great news for you! That’s the exact premise of The Call of the Wild!
The film is based on the classic novel by Jack London about a dog named Buck, who is sold to freight haulers. Buck crosses path with a man named John Thorton as the two embark on an adventure.
Brahms: The Boy II
Starring: Katie Holmes, Christopher Convery, Ralph Ineson
If you’re familiar with The Boy (which I’m not proud to admit that I am), it’s very clear that the trailer for the sequel throws away every plot point from the original. Spoilers: It’s confirmed in the original film that Brahms is not a haunted doll. However, the sequel seems to insinuate that he is a haunted object, which is terrorizing every family that he encounters. Spoilers over
In the sequel, a family moves to the spooky Heelshire residence, where their son discovers a creepy doll called Brahms that seems eerily human.
