What to Watch: January 17th

It’s mid-January, which is usually the time that studios dump their worst releases to the theaters. The big holiday releases have passed, and everything has been sent out for award season. Maybe you’d like to catch up on your Best Picture nominees? If not, there are two new movies out this weekend with some significant star power surrounding them! The Bad Boys are back, and Dr. Dolittle is in. Who will you be watching?

Bad Boys For Life
Starring: Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Charles Melton
The Bad Boys are back for the first time since 2003 to round out a Bad Boys trilogy. In the film, they must take down the leader of a drug cartel in Miami. This time around, they’ve got some new characters joining them played by Charles Melton, Vanessa Hudgens, and Alexander Ludwig. I wonder how they’ll handle being joined by cast members of High School Musical, Riverdale, and The Hunger Games? They’ll be fine because they’re Bad Boys for life!

Dolittle
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Rami Malek, Ralph Fiennes, Emma Thompson
In Robert Downey Jr.’s first project since Avengers: Endgame, he plays Dr. Dolittle, the famous vet who can talk to animals. Critics aren’t exactly pleased with the project so far, but it certainly has an impressive cast of characters involved. The voice cast includes Oscar-winners Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes, Marion Cotillard, Octavia Spencer, and Rami Malek. Other cast members include Antonio Banderas, Tom Holland, John Cena, Selena Gomez, Kumail Nanjiani, and Michael Sheen. I can confidently say this will probably be the only time all of these actors are in a movie together. (Unless there’s a Dolittle sequel at some point.)
