What to Watch: Febuary 8

February 8, 2019

It’s the second week of February and unlike last weekend, there are actually a few new movie options to see in theaters! What should you watch this weekend? Keep reading to find out!

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
The highly anticipated sequel to The Lego Movie hits theaters this weekend! In the film, Bricksburg is invaded by a group who begins to wreck everything in the city. Maybe everything is not awesome? Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, and Alison Brie all returns for the sequel along with some new characters voiced by Tiffany Hadish, Jason Momoa, Margot Robbie, and Gal Gadot!

What Men Want
In this reboot of the popular Mel Gibson comedy, What Women Want, Taraji P. Henson stars in the lead role as a woman who hits her head and can hear men’s thoughts. Hollywood is really loving the whole “Woman hits her head and her life changes” concept. The plot line was used last year in I Feel Pretty. It’s being used here in What Men Want, and by the looks of every preview I’ve seen, it’s going to be used again in next week’s Valentine’s release, Isn’t It Romantic. I’m not saying all of these movies are the same because they deal with different subject matters, but maybe screenwriters could come up with a new plot device to get the movie going? Just a suggestion.

The Prodigy
If horror is more your thing, maybe you should see The Prodigy. The film is about a mother who thinks her son’s strange behavior might be caused by something supernatural. Looks pretty creepy!

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
June 4, 2025

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is an entertaining summer blockbuster. Due to lackluster villains and too many plot lines, it does not soar to the heights of Fallout and Rogue Nation but, let me tell you, Ethan Hunt is the only man in the galaxy who could take on this mission. The entity did not tell me to say that either.

Besides that, I didn’t find much to enjoy in this odd and overstuffed mess. I would not recommend Red One this holiday season. Unfortunately, it is neither festive nor fun. It is game over though, so that counts for something.
