What to Watch: December 21st

December 21, 2018

Christmas is almost here! I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. There are so many movies being released today for the big Christmas week ahead of us. What should you see? Let’s take a look!

It’s a Jolly Holiday with Mary
Mary Poppins Returns
Mary Poppins is back with Emily Blunt in the starring role and Lin Manuel Miranda supporting. The sequel is, of course, a musical. This time around, Mary is helping out the grown up Banks children as they’ve fallen on hard times.

Subaquatic Superhero
Aquaman
DC’s latest movie adaption stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Hopefully it’ll be a little more like Wonder Woman and a little less like Batman v. Superman.

Don’t Call it a Comeback
Second Act
Jennifer Lopez is back in the rom com! Not just a rom com, but a Christmas rom com! She plays a woman stuck in an average job who begins working at a private advance firm when they are lead to believe she’s a consultant. The hijinks of it all! Did I mention it also stars her real life best friend Leah Remini? And Milo Ventimiglia (Jack from This is Us) AND Vanessa Hudgens? This movie was designed for mothers and daughters to see together at Christmas time.

Michael Scott in Marwen
Welcome to Marwen
Steve Carrell stars as an assault victim who builds a tiny town called Marwen to help deal with his trauma. The film is based on a true story and looks to be very unique.

It’s a bird..it’s a plane…it’s another Transformers movie
Bumblebee
Santa has heard my wish this year and granted it. Now, I can go see a movie about the origin story of Bumblebee the Transformer, then listen to clanging metal robots for 2 and a half hours. Just when I thought Hollywood had crushed my dreams and unjustly stopped at 5 Transformers movies, we’ve got a Christmas miracle! There’s a 6th!

I will not be making another post on Christmas Day, but there are a few more movies that will be releasing on December 25th!
Christmas Day releases: Vice, If Beale Street Could Talk, On The Basis of Sex, Holmes and Watson

Wow! That’s 9 new movies that will be released by Christmas day. For any movie fan, that’s a wonderful Christmas gift! I hope this post has helped you find something that you and your family or friends can all go see together during this holiday season. Merry Christmas!

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
June 4, 2025

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is an entertaining summer blockbuster. Due to lackluster villains and too many plot lines, it does not soar to the heights of Fallout and Rogue Nation but, let me tell you, Ethan Hunt is the only man in the galaxy who could take on this mission. The entity did not tell me to say that either.

Red One Review
December 20, 2024

Besides that, I didn’t find much to enjoy in this odd and overstuffed mess. I would not recommend Red One this holiday season. Unfortunately, it is neither festive nor fun. It is game over though, so that counts for something.
