American Film Institute Announces 2018 Honorees

December 4, 2018

The American Film Institute has named their honorees for the best of films of 2018. Who did they pick? Read on to find out!

AFI Movies of the Year
Black Panther
BlackKklansman
Eighth Grade
If Beale Street Could Talk
The Favourite
First Reformed
Green Book
Mary Poppins Returns
A Quiet Place
A Star is Born

Special Award
Roma

The major takeaway from this list is how strikingly similar it is to The National Board of Review’s Top Films list released just last week. I’m genuinely surprised A Quiet Place and Black Panther find themselves in awards contention. They’re decent films, but I can think of several others that deserve their slots. (Mission: Impossible- Fallout, Tully, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, First Man) Oh well, it’s not my list. It’s the AFI Honorees’ world and we’re just living in it.
